Duchess Hotel

Duchess has a population of two.
The publican Bill and his wife Rhoda. That's it!

There's not much there, but if you take the drive from Mt Isa - it's a bit less than 100 km south - you will be guaranteed undivided attention.

You can park over the road next to the railway line - yes you will probably hear a train. It's still a working line.

Call in to the pub for a meal and a beer, or whatever strikes your fancy. Not too expensive either.
You can buy a meal; no menu - it is whatever is available but you can be sure it will be tasty & nourishing

In earlier days Duchess was an important railway and mining town with the settlement having up to 2000 people living there.

Today, hear the stories of the glory days over a drink or two at the Duchess Hotel. Bill has banned politicians including John Anderson, Julia Gillard and Wayne Swan over the years, along with football referees who have made 'dud calls' There are a few stories to be told here!
