Yaraka Hotel:

On the Outer Barcoo

A retired school principal has taken over this outback pub, saying she has plans to revitalise a tiny western Queensland town and double its population of 16.

Gerry and her husband, Chris, are the owners of the Yaraka Hotel, (Say Yarra-ka) south of Longreach.
It's a true-blue family run business.

Nestled against the Yang Yang Range the family-run Yaraka Hotel offers great home-cooked meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner available 7 days a week.

There's cold beer and warm hospitality

Do not miss a trip to nearby Mt Slocombe with a tar sealed road winding its way to the top making it easily accessible even for cars.

The 360-degree views from the top of this mesa hill leave every visitor astounded at the stunning beauty before them.
Not only does Mt Slocombe offer awesome views it also has an electric BBQ and covered seating and toilet facilities.
Chris the publican runs sunset tours to the top daily, for a donation to the RFDS (Royal Flying Doctor Service).

Longreach Regional Council offer powered & unpowered sites with great amenities including in-ground swimming pool (conditions apply) , showers, tennis court with lights, park area with barbecue, all ideally located 100m from hotel

Camping is a super-low cost for power and water - such great value!

There is a council-owned pool too for those 40 degree days.
Right next to the camp!
Air-conditioned budget accommodation is ideal for non-campers

Watch out for the over-friendly emus!

The general store has fuel and pretty decent coffee.

.They hold a gymkhana annually and other events; contact the pub for details. Make a detour on the way to Longreach.

If you plan on visiting just one outback pub this year, make it this one. This is an inspiring and beautiful part of the outback. Plan to stop a while.

Australian Story aired their documentary of this pub in 2015. Watch it via this link. (Permission was given by ABC-with thanks)

If you have a pubs bucket list – The Yaraka Hotel should be right near the top. I visited in 2018 & 2022 and can’t wait to go back.
Eating oysters with owners Geri & Chris, that were hand delivered by Barefoot Bill that day! If that’s not an unusual Queensland Outback experience, well, I don’t know what is!
Camping was $3 pn then , included power and water, showers and toilets too.
Add it to your list, you won’t regret it
