Royal Hotel Sofala
is Australia's oldest surviving gold town; you know there is something special here as you descend the hill to see the town at the foot of the valley.
Although it is now little more than 3 very narrow streets in total - it once stretched for 16km and was a bustling hub.
Park at the entry to town and stroll to the pub
Sofala is located 50 km north from Bathurst
Built in 1862 (although some sources insist it was opened in 1851 - more accurately the first Royal Hotel in Sofala opened on 7 October 1851),
the Royal Hotel is a typical goldfields hotel. It still offers accommodation.
There is so much of interest in this historic town.
