Golden Crown Hotel Berriwillock Vic.

Situated in the Mallee region about 332k N/W of Melbourne

Approx half way between Bendigo and Swanhill via Calder Hwy.

Very small town with around 150 people..

The Golden Crown Hotel reopened for business after a local boy  - Darren Weir - trained the 2015 Melbourne Cup winner, Prince Of Penzance, and ridden by the first female jockey to win The Cup, Michelle Payne

He promised the town folk if he ever had success in winning the Melbourne cup he would bring it back home to show the town folk.

Good to his word he did, but before he did this - the town folk joined together to give the old pub a makeover, thus reopening it for business.

It is the hub of the town.

The folk living here are the salt of the earth type people, the kitchen will even stay open after closing time to feed a late traveller or truckle and you do not get that type of service in many places in today's world.

The hotel opens 3 pm Mon /Friday and around noon Sat /Sunday.

Beautiful country style cooked meals.

Beer flows easy and cold.

They also have coffee and ice creams.

The Old Clock

On the wall above the bar of the Golden Crown Hotel is a clock older than the pub, and connected with this clock is a strange and fascinating story.

•Before the first World War a young boy hurrying to school each morning would pop his head in the door to check the clock for the time making sure he was on time.

•His name was Frank Kilcullen, and he died in 1977

As his funeral procession drove past the pub,  at that very moment the clock stopped,
~ Later it started again of its own accord ~

Frank wrote a poem about the Hotel in 1971.

Camping

Rv travellers are welcome to stay in the backyard behind the hotel if patronising the pub.

Toilets available

Across the road from the hotel, there is another RV stop over with BBQ and toilets.
